Why does Johnson Creek refer to their product as Smoke Juice where as the rest of the industry refers to it as e-liquid?

We call it Smoke juice because we want to distinguish our product from all of the other e-liquids that are produced that do not use the same quality ingredients and the same quality procedures as Johnson Creek does.

How does Johnson Creek control the nicotine percentages?

All of our production is controlled by cGMP standards. Johnson Creek’s Executive Vice President of Product Development carefully calculates every batch and then their Senior R&D Chemist verifies those calculations before sending the mix sheets to the lab for production. Once in the lab, their Lab Manager measures out and records all ingredients. Each of those measurements is then verified and signed by a second Lab Technician. The batches are then periodically tested with a GC-FID or GC-MS machine to verify accurate nicotine levels. Our test results show our nicotine levels are consistently within a 99.3% to 100.7% range.

Besides mix sheets and COAs, how does Johnson Creek ensure quality?

Johnson Creek follows cGMPs (current Good Manufacturing Practices), and SOPs (Standard Operating Practices). They also utilize a HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point) program that includes full traceability and a recall program. They have both a Quality Manual and an Operations Manual that details the procedures.

Do you ever use flavor elements that may trigger allergic reactions? Things like oils from tree nuts, shellfish, etc.

Since there are literally thousands and thousands of things people are allergic to it is nearly impossible to create a consumable product that is free of every single allergen. With that said we do take allergens very seriously and assure our products are free of the most common types. For example, once we learned a small portion of our customer base had a slight allergic reaction to Propylene Glycol (PG), an entire line of 100% PG-free smoke juice was created for blu electronic cigarettes.

Are there any potential side effects from ingredients contained in the carts?

All ingredients we use in the manufacturing of our smoke juices are “generally regarded as safe” as defined by the USP (United States Pharmacopeia), GRAS (Generally Regarded As Safe for human consumption), EAFUS (Everything Added to Food in the United States), or the FDA.  Nicotine is the only exception. Nicotine is the only ingredient that requires a warning, as it is a known addictive substance.

Why do some flavors produce more vapor or last longer than others?

All of the flavors Johnson Creek produces for blu are Vegetable Glycerin based which in itself produces a greater amount of vapor compared to a Propylene Glycol based product.

Why does Java Jolt seem thick and produce less vapor?

In order to achieve a strong tasting coffee for Java Jolt, we opted to use ingredients that maximized flavor but in turn had a very thick consistency and limited vapor production. The decision was made to keep the flavor strong at the expense of some minor vapor production.

How does using Vegetable Based Glycerin compare to Propylene Glycol in terms of vapor and longevity?

VG will produce a thicker, denser vapor, which will hang in the air longer, but the longevity of carts filled with the same amount of Smoke Juice should be the same whether filled with PG or VG.

When crafting a new flavor, what is the process like? Where do you start?

Once Johnson Creek finds something that they think will appeal to a wide range of e-smokers, they scour America to get dozens of samples of each and every ingredient. Sometimes the ingredients come from flavoring companies, sometimes from actual raw materials. Before they can even start the fun part of creating a recipe they must first confirm the ingredients are soluble, stay blended with other ingredients and have a low enough flash point that they will survive the atomizer and still provide strong flavor. By process of elimination, this essentially narrows the list down.

Once they have a list of ingredients that survived the testing gauntlet, then the fun begins. Based on each ingredient’s strength, as well as past experience, they create an initial recipe using the levels they think will mesh well and compliment the multitude of other flavors in the recipe. Once blended in a zero nicotine base we get to sample the recipe for the first time. They first smell then taste the raw liquid and then load up a cartomizer and give it a vape. Based on the taste, either adjustments are made or they proceed to make a low nicotine version for testing by in-house vapers. After the staff takes at least a full day to independently vape each sample, each person is interviewed in private so their feedback is not skewed by other opinions. Based on the collective feedback, multiple revisions are made until we have a final product that meets the high blu standards.

Is it true that Johnson Creek was the first company in America to make smoke juice/e-liquid?

Yes, in 2007, they began work on what would become their original formulas and then went on to found Johnson Creek Enterprises, LLC. JCE became the first company in America to make smoke juice / e-liquid from scratch.

Is it true that Johnson Creek was the first company in the world to create non-PG smoke juice?

Yes it is. JCE was the first company in the world to create a smoke juice / e-liquid completely devoid of propylene glycol (PG). Today, though some companies incorrectly market what they call “PG-free.” What many of them may not realize is that the vast majority of the flavorings themselves are PG-based. However, you can be completely certain that your blu smoke juice is 100% PG-free.
